The Future of RF?

Supply vs. Demand

As our shows are requiring more and more frequencies for wireless microphones and comms, the FCC continues to auction off spectrum to the telecommunications industry for use by broadband devices. Very soon we will be competing for bandwidth with every cell phone in the venue, and that could be trouble. Here are some links to places that explain the situation and possible solutions:

Audio Apps for iOS

Here are some iOS apps that I find useful in the field. All are both iPhone and iPad compatible.

Here are some helpful reference files. Hopefully, I'll have more to add in the future.

The following file sets are scan files from my TTi PSA2701t Spectrum Analyzer at various venues in the US. They can be imported into IAS to give you a rough idea in advance of the RF landscape when you are unable to get a scan in person. Files are named CITY.VENUE.DATE. THESE FILES SHOULD NOT REPLACE AN ACTUAL SCAN AND I MAKE NO GAURANTEES THAT THESE SCANS STILL REPRESENT THE ACTUAL RF ENVIRONMENT IN ANY VENUE.

Dining Out On The Road

Because nobody works well on an empty stomach!

Here are some links to dining establishments that I like to frequent when traveling. I wouldn't claim that any of them gets 5 stars on Yelp, but they all have decent food and great atmosphere. Most of them have a fine craft beer selection, and some of them have become a tradition for me when visiting their city.

St. Elmo's Steak House: Indianapolis, IN

This is, by far, my favorite place to eat. The steak house has been
open in it's current location in downtown Indianapolis since 1902,
and the place is ALWAYS packed. I typically order the bone-in
ribeye medium-rare. I've never been disappointed! There is
also an excellent little bar upstairs called the 1933 Lounge.

Pictured to the left is the only appetizer on the menu. The World
Famous St. Elmo Shrimp Cocktail! The shrimp are huge and the
homemade cocktail sauce has enough fresh horseradish in it to
melt your face off. It's awesome!
